Mark VanGeison

President of Spartan Financial Partners

Since its founding in 2010, Mark VanGeison has served as President of Spartan Financial Partners, the auto lending and portfolio acquisition division of American Credit Acceptance. Spartan specializes in providing capital solutions for buy here pay here dealers and independent auto finance companies nationwide.

With over 20 years of experience, Mark has a long track record of successfully leading teams within the Financial Services Industry through smart and strategic mergers & acquisitions.

Mark began his relationship with The Johnson Group family of companies at Johnson Management, where he worked to divest two operating businesses and three real estate portfolios. His focus centered on locating potential acquisition candidates. It was within this role that Mark identified Cornerstone Acceptance, the wholly-owned auto finance subsidiary of Sonic Automotive, Inc., which today is known as American Credit Acceptance.

Mark has a BBA in International Business from The University of Georgia and an MBA from Emory University.

John McDermott

Senior Director, Asset-based Lending

As the Senior Director of Asset-Based Lending, John McDermott has been a great resource at Spartan Financial Partners since joining in March 2019. In his role, he successfully directs and manages the following teams for Spartan’s Line of Credit business: Credit Analysis and Underwriting, Business Development, Relationship Management, and Portfolio Reporting. He has utilized his considerable business development knowledge to build strong relationships between Spartan and BHPH dealers and independent auto finance companies throughout the country.

Before joining Spartan, John worked in Capital Markets, Structured Finance, and Asset-Backed Finance groups for banks in New York. His extensive background in transaction structuring and credit and financial analysis gives him an advantage when it comes to providing Spartan’s customers with individualized financing solutions which best fit their capital needs.

John received his BS in Finance from Fordham University.

Shane Cropper Headshot

Shane Cropper

Director, Bulk Acquisitions

Shane Cropper joined Spartan Financial Partners from Spartan’s parent company, American Credit Acceptance (ACA), as the Director of Finance. During his time at ACA, Shane dealt with enterprise corporate financials; managing over $4 billion in assets, budgeting, and forecasting for the corporate financials on a day-to-day basis.

Since moving to the Spartan team in 2020, Shane serves as the Director of Bulk Acquisitions. In his role, Shane provides strategy and finance knowledge to effectively grow the business and to improve the process for dealers who wish to sell their portfolios in bulk.

Prior to joining ACA, Shane spent time in both Finance and Strategy roles before becoming the Chief Financial Officer for 2 startup businesses. Shane obtained his BA in Management from the University of Maryland and his MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Iowa after serving in the US Army for 4 years.

Mike Toms

Director, Sales

The Director of Sales for Spartan Financial Partners, Mike Toms, began his finance career in a Fixed-Income Originations and Trading role with a global financial services firm. After he spent a couple years in the Financial Services industry, Mike entered the Auto industry where he ran a very profitable used-car store before acquiring a larger franchise store to operate.

Mike has spent time in Finance & Insurance, Product & Delivery, and even IT Systems roles with Dealer Management Systems vendors. Having over 25 years of experience in the Finance and Automotive Industries, Mike brings ample knowledge to the Spartan team and can leverage his relationship building skills in his role as the Director of Sales.

The combination of his wall street fixed-income and in-depth dealership experience puts him in a position to understand and help dealers as they address their evolving capital needs, on both the bulk and LOC side.

Mike has his bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning and an MBA from Yale University. Prior to entering the Finance and Automotive world, Mike served in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets.

Tom Siver

Senior Manager, Asset-based Lending

Tom Siver received his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix before beginning his career in the Auto Finance Industry. Since 1999 he has worked with multiple banks and was responsible for building many markets across the country and developing deep relationships with clients to improve the overall performance of the portfolios. He spent the last 6 years working for Hamilton State Bank/Ameris Bank providing lines of credit to BHPH dealers and auto finance companies before the bank was acquired by Spartan Financial Partners.

As of September 2019, Tom has been the Senior Manager of Asset Based Lending at Spartan. His role is centered around offering lines of credit to BHPH dealers and auto finance companies, and managing client relationships to help them build a more profitable company.

Tom’s excellent networking and relationship building skills help him to deepen Spartan’s relationships. His excellent credit skills, strong background in business development, and great knowledge of underwriting auto finance credit helps his clients thrive by providing knowledge and advice in those areas.

Jimmy Rambo

Senior Manager, Asset-based Lending

Jimmy Rambo started with Spartan Financial Partners in March 2017. He is responsible for business development and relationship management within Spartan’s Line of Credit business. In his time with Spartan, he has also served in an Underwriting role, leading the Credit Analyst and Account Executive team.

Prior to Spartan, Jimmy worked in the Banking Industry for 15 years, serving in various Commercial Relationship Management and Credit Administration roles for two community and regional banks. In these roles, he was responsible for originating and structuring various types of commercial credit facilities. His banking background provides experience in communicating with clients, understanding clients’ financial needs and creating an appropriate structure that works for both parties.

The South Carolina native is a graduate of Wofford College (B.A. Finance) and the University of South Carolina (M.B.A. with concentration in Finance).
